        Weekly Curb-side trash pickup  - See Route Map for schedule.
The City's Garbage Ordinance requires hard sided containers with tight fitting lids for containment of garbage.  All garbage must be enclosed in tied bags.  The maximum size container allowed to be placed out for pickup is limited to 32 gallon capacity and cannot exceed 50 pounds.  Each container handle must be tagged with a Waste Management Garbage Tag.  Containers put out for pickup shall not be out more than 12 hours prior to, or 12 hours after scheduled pickup time. For other container options, such as totes, or dumpsters for multi-family structures, contact Waste Management.

        There is an annual collection for household hazardous waste.  Residents must make an appointment with Waste Management and then bring the waste to their collection site for disposal.  The waste is collected 3 times during the Spring & Summer months. The schedule is published in the Sault Evening News as well as on the City's website at www.sault-sainte-marie.mi.us

The self-serve recycling center accepts all types of recyclables; 24 hours per day.
           
    Curbside Recycling

        Residents wishing to participate in the curbside recycling program should visit the Waste Management Office to purchase their 18 Gallon recycling bin.  The cost is $10 per bin. Waste Management empties recycling bins at curbside twice a month.

        The Compost Facility hours of operation varies from year to year, but is generally open from May through October.  The compost facility schedule is advertised in the Spring and Fall in the Sault Evening News.  Current facility hours are posted on the City's website: www.sault-sainte-marie.mi.us   Those wishing to deposit yard waste or retrieve composted material (when available), should do so during normal hours of operation.
           
    Annual Leaf Pickup
        City DPW crews vacuum leaves in the Fall.  Residents should rake their leaves into piles at the street - include leaves and pine needles; do not include sticks, limbs and other debris.  The schedule for leaf pickup changes from year to year.  The schedule is posted in the Sault Evening News and on the City's website at www.sault-sainte-marie.mi.us
