The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department operates with 21 fire fighting personnel, 1 Chief, and a Secretary. We work three 24 hour shifts with a full day off in between, and four full days off after the third worked shift. We have been housed in our current station since 1907, and the fire department was formed in 1884. The City of Sault Ste. Marie is one of the oldest cities in the United States and it is still thriving.
The fire department covers 14 square miles with fire prevention and protection, and services 7 townships including the city with Advanced Life Support (ALS). Our current International Organization of Standards (ISO) rating is 4.
